WASHINGTON -- Shortly after news broke that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) had been shot at a congressional event in her district, observers began noting that she had, during the campaign, literally been Sarah Palin's target. But a Palin aide is now explaining that it was all a misunderstanding: the infamous image was never meant to evoke guns or violence.

Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position.
As opposed to impartially providing information, propaganda, in its most basic sense, presents information primarily to influence an audience. Propaganda often presents facts selectively (thus possibly lying by omission) to encourage a particular synthesis, or uses loaded messages to produce an emotional rather than rational response to the information presented. The desired result is a change of the attitude toward the subject in the target audience to further a political agenda. Propaganda can be used as a form of political warfare.

Exactly! Her depiction of gun-sight cross-hairs and her reload comment are both intended to speak directly to her lunatic fringe base. Unfortunately she seemed to overlook the ramifications of this, or did she?

I suppose "reload" was not a reference to guns or violence either, what a bunch of BS.

Oh they will spin it and it will be the victims fault just you watch. It always takes the train to hit the school bus before the guards get fixed. There will be death panels for these incidents also.
No, the tea party, palin, has nothing to do with guns or even bring them to protests. Now we will have to spend even more for the secret service to protect every flippin congress person? Start governing the right way and people won't get ticked off is the better answer!!! No more misinformation and propaganda also, grow up congress!!!

Right, and combined with "Lock and load", "Never retreat, reload" statements and that vacuous, inane 'kill all the wildlife' TV show of hers- now mercifully cancelled- we can all safely assume that she was just speaking of getting pissed at one of her kid's beer-bashes? Her blind and thought-free faithful may be that stupid, but the rest of us are not!

The attempt to connect a target on a map to this senseless act of mayhem is itself an act of insanity.
I did a quick search for references to things being "in the cross-hairs". Here are just a few from what could be a list of thousands.

Some of the folks here need to take a deep breath. The term "cross-hairs" has been used for many decades without violent intent. You have to stretch it a long way to make it a reference to violence but stretch it you will if you are so extreme you have to make everything your political opponent's fault. It would be a cold day in Singapore before I voted for Sarah Palin but I'm not going down this stupid road of hate with you.

The true indicator of Sarah Palin's guilt, is that she took this website down so quickly and then her aide's are issuing 'statements'. If Ms. Palin is so guilt free, then she would have left her website up. The fact that she took it down so quickly while the rest of us were standing in front of the tv with our mouths wide open in utter astonishment, implies her complete guilt and lack of integrity. Saying that "I was just joking" does not cut it when so many have died.

Clint-trying to explain this to group of people with acute PDS fixated on trying to blame this on Palin is next to impossible, did th NY Democrats sighted in this article want Peter king to be shot because he was in their cross hairs?
I'm on pins and needles waiting for the tortured explanations on how this if different than what Palin did that has their panties in a bunch.
Democrats have Pete King in the cross hairs.
National and state party officials are plotting to weaken King, one of New York's three remaining Republican congressmen, by redrawing the lines of his Long Island district.

Agreed, but when linked to terms like: watering the tree of liberty with the blood, and a revolution every so often, and take back my country, and second amendment remedies, and our president is a muslim, or socialist, or hates America, or wants to destroy America, or I hate liberals or liberals are what's wrong with America...need I go on?
I think you might can see where mere metaphor has been exceeded, and the element of hate has entered the picture.
This might not have anything to do with this particular criminal... but it might. And why encourage others by allowing this atmosphere to exist?

As for Andy - so the DNC is responsible for how stupid news reporters frame a story now? If you want to counter with quotes, counter with actual quotes from people, not from a reporter's story.
But no - either all gun rhetoric is bad, or it is all ok. Make up your mind.
- 12 votes
Of course the Palin camp didn't put up the ad and use the gun-related phrases with the intent to signal that someone out there should actually take up arms and shoot at the other side's polititcians ( though I'd still consider Angle's mention of "Second Amendment solutions to be suspect ).
The problem is that they ignored warnings that the imagery and phrases they used could be interpreted by some deranged individual out there, like the guy involved in this shooting, to do exactlywhat has just happened! They shrugged off such concerns over and over and kept the images up on their site until what they'd been warned about actually happened.
Now they're saying that they never intended for this to happen. Of course they didn't, but they also can't say that they had no idea that it could happen since it was argued from the time they first put those images and messages out there of what could happen and repeatedly dismissed the warnings.
After similar rhetoric was suspected of being a factor in the killing of Dr. Tiller not long before, they went ahead with their plans.
They may not be criminally liable, but they did have a part inthis due to their negligence, and that should be remembered before handing them money for public appearances, books, or more political campaigns since their own history indicates they lack the judgement to avoid repeating their mistakes, let alone the judgement to do a reasonable job of handling the responsibilities of office.
I gotta add a sarcasm tag to my post at 1.2????

It's okay for palin to say lock and load then reload, but when I'm in a war it isn't okay to defend you and kill them all? "We never ever, ever intended it to be gun sights," she [Palin's aide] said in an interview with talk radio host Tammy Bruce Saturday. "It was simply crosshairs like you'd see on maps."
BULL!!
Bruce suggested that they could, in fact, be seen as "surveyor's symbols."
PLEASE SPARE US!
Mansour added that "it never occurred to us that anybody would consider it violent" and called any attempts to politicize the Arizona tragedy "repulsive."
This cross hairs crap is os dangerous and dispicable it even angered Mrs. Palin's favorite little cronie:
Sarah Palin's gun sight-riddled campaign map is so militant that it's even lost her the support of "The View" co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck, who called Palin's behavior despicable."I think the way some Republicans are handling this is nothing more than purely despicable," Hasselbeck said. "The names that are next to and being highlighted by those crosshairs -- I think it's an abuse of the Second Amendment. I also feel as though every single person on here is a mother, a father, a friend, a brother, a sister, and to take it to this level is -- it's disappointing to see this come from the Party, and I would hope that leaders like Sarah Palin would end this."
Excuse me! "leaders like Sarah Palin"? aaaarrrrrghhh!!! The Republican Party fed this "political serpent" until it became and dragon. Now what are they going to do with it?

Oh please,
1-the democratic map of targets were of states, and the Palin map was of crosshairs on specific named individuals (funny how they conveniently left that part out of the picture of her map)
2-the item you showed is a piece of equipment, Palin's people said it was like surveyors marks on a map, there are no such things that look like that for maps (that I've found) However, a request for a sniper target photo brings up this
3- You've also forgotten(?)her references to "reload" and "bullseye".
Palin's map may or may not have had anything to do with the nutjob killer, but it was absolutely a call to violence (hidden behind a curtain of "freedom of expression")and you and people like you who try to defend her and cover it up should be ashamed of themselves and any who are in office should be removed immediately.

A BUILDER is a general term for people who directly add value to our socialite, roadways, bridges, schools, hospitals etc. All of which I have built in years past.
More specifically, I hire the architects, engineers and designers. Bring projects and capital improvements from concept to reality. I hold several degrees two of which are in the engineering fields, civil & structural.
I submit you would be better served to know who/what you are discussing before addressing credibility.

The crosshair, or reticle, is used in any telescopic device, from a microscope to a camera. In mapping iconography it can signify the view seen through surveyors' equipment. It is found in astronomy, and in interface design, like in graphics software like Photoshop and on older versions of the iPhone Google Maps application.
According to this diagram of reticles in a Wikipedia article, some of the same crosshair designs can be used for both surveying equipment and rifles, since they're both concerned with measuring distance, or rangefinding.
The view through a reticle would look similar if you were looking through a surveyers' equipment or a gun sight.

"We'll aim for these races and many others," she wrote on her Facebook page. "This is just the first salvo in a fight to elect people across the nation who will bring common sense to Washington. Please go to sarahpac.com and join me in the fight."
This was directly from when she did the "take back the 20 campaign" it's what she said when she launched it.

Perhaps the view through the equipment is similar. but there is no equating surveyors map symbols with gun targets.
And more importantly, surveyor equipment targets land sites. Gun sights target living things. Like the living people listed on Sara Palin's map.

People are making political hay out of this event WITHOUT evidence to the fact that the "gunsight?" images on the map of the US was the reason a crazed gunman shot several people.
I see people trying the lynch Palin (metaphorically) without evidence and people are just falling into the mob mentality. I do not like Palin, but I can at least sit back and see the radical leftist being no different when seeing similar images (previously provided) and reading comments about calling for punishment of people without due process

Seems quite clear that both dems and reps have used targets, sights and cross-hairs in their various maps, so if these are truly the reason that this whack-job shot the congresswoman (and others), both the dems and the reps are guilty.
However, I think those who rely on common sense in these type of situations, will come to the conclusion that the maps and imagery used on those maps has little to do with the tragedy that took place in Tucson this weekend.

If you'll notice, I stated that I didn't know whether Palin's map was to blame or not for the nutjob's actions, but that the map with the cross-hairs on it with specific people listed was undoubtedly a veiled call to violence. I was amazed that people are actually agreeing with and defending the bull@!$%# that Palin's people are putting out there to cover their asses.
If they were surveyors map marks, why didn't they say anything about it before this (there was certainly an uproar when it first came out)? Why did they remove the map right after the shooting? Why did Palin tell her followers when the map first came out to "reload" and refer to the map later with the word "bullseye"?
Trying to pretend that she meant anything but putting a guns sights on specific people and targeting them for removal is what is radical, and in my opinion, repulsive.

#1.69: If you'll notice, I stated that I didn't know whether Palin's map was to blame or not for the nutjob's actions, but that the map with the cross-hairs on it with specific people listed was undoubtedly a veiled call to violence
We may never know... but what I find ironic is that until she tried to pull that map down, I'd never even heard of it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It is even likely that the shooter had never heard of it, much less seen it. It all depends on how big a fan he was of Sarah Palin. But, had she kept her big mouth shut and simply left that map alone, I think the discourse here would have taken a different tack.
Sometimes, you just gotta hear the echoes of "Methinks thou protest too much..." Sarah should have left well-enough alone.

If the maps are the problem, Palin isn't the only one who used the map approach for political objectives:

It seems that we either blame everyone who's used the target/bullseye/sights/cross-hairs on a map approach, or we come to our senses, and realize that the maps probably had little if anything to do with the shooting.

I honestly don't think that Palin's map had a direct connection to the shooting (although it did add to the violent air that has been looming in politics since 08), but the article is about the lies that Palin's aides are telling about the maps original intent. And the fact that people are defending and trying to cover up Palin's violent tendencies towards her opponents is appalling.

WTB - what does the author of the article know about Palin staff's intent?

I suggest you learn to take information at face value without analysis.
I have:
1 - picture of map put out by Palin with sniper cross-hairs on it and a list of people that palin wants removed.
2 - along with the map, Palin tells her followers to "reload", then later brags that her "bullseye" icon worked.
3 - After the shooting the map is removed and Palin's aide says it had nothing to do with guns or violence and that it was like surveyor map marks.
No analysis needed, Palin's aide is lying.

My problem with SP's use is that she targeted an INDIVIDUAL. I saw that map with the bullseyes that the rights are using to try to prove that democrats are just as bad. Those bullseyes are on STATES, not people. It said to target those states for democratic gains.
First, who is going to shoot a state? How do you shoot a state? You can't, because there's no real target.
Second, the language used was not hateful but more positive. It spoke of targeting those states for "gains" not for "brutality" or "evil-doing" or anything else negative. So the language itself is not inflammatory vs the repeated gun imagery and words such as 'reload'.
Third, SP's focused on a person rather than the position. It's one thing for anyone to say like, "We have to go after McCain and eliminate him." vs."We have to target the Senatorial Seat for a democratic gain". One is implying it's the person to be gotten rid of, the second is saying that you want the seat and isn't that what you are supposed to want? The seat? You want them to lose but nothing about them being "eliminated".
I take a look at all that. It's not just the graphic but how it is used, the context so to speak.
I know that means little to you but to us, it means quite a bit. To take something out of it's context is to deprive it of it's purpose.
Sort of like the guy taking "@!$%#" out of huck finn. As a black person, I am disgusted by him doing that. It is the language of the time and it is the context of the time of the book. Taking it out, takes out a vital part of the book and destroys it's value. Because as a "@!$%#" Jim is thought to be less than a person but it is through the book that they realize he is a man and a good man in and of himself. So he is not some catchall word but a human of many dimensions.

Rahlly,
In one map, the dems used targets for states, and terms like "targeting" and "behind enemy lines". In another they included red targets to signify "targeted republicans" (their term not mine) who they wanted to remove, and provided their name and district along with their vote on the stimulus.
So clearly both dems and reps have used similar (if not almost identical) tactics. Those who choose to spend so much time articulating why one map with targets is OK and another is wrong are splitting hairs and showing that partisanship is their priority.
- 3 votes
Really?
And the ones who defend a guy who shows up at a political rally with a pistol strapped to his leg and a sign saying "It's time to water the tree..."
Are both sides using that rhetoric?
The wingnut who warned of "2nd Amendment consequences..." if she lost her election?
Both side said something that dumb?
The nitwit who said she wanted her backers to be "Armed and dangerous"?
Both sides did that?
No, they didn't. Everyone of the above geniuses were TeaBaggers. So get your sht straight or move it out.
- 7 votes
I agree the targets are used as a symbol almost everywhere. It is when the visual symbol is used in connection with the negative verbal furtherance of the symbol, i.e., "reload" or "armed and dangerous". The verbal reinforcement of a visual that is in itself innocuous is the problem. People on the edge start conspiracy theories with this sort of visual/verbal association. Then in states like Arizona where it is easy to buy weapons, you have a very large problem.

Yet it wasn't used with violent language. No language to denote weapons were used and the bullseyes were not on the people. They wanted to remove them from their seats, yes but where is the violent imagery evoked by SP's "lock and load" and "reload"? Where is it connected to the violent rhetoric that those people want to "destroy" those who don't agree with them? Have the democrats ever said that we have to destroy those people, did they ever say that those 'targeted republican' seats and the holders of those seats we out to destroy people? Did the democrats ever say, if they don't listen to you, arm yourself and MAKE them listen? No... they motivated the vote but that's not "second amendment remedies" it's like like bachmann's call for people to arm themselves for a revolution.
While they may use a target, they don't link to violence or calls to violence.

Even if the "shooter" never saw Palin's map [with Rep. Giffords' name & location on it], most people, I repeat, MOST PEOPLE, that did see it thought the symbols were gun sights. Especially when you hear and see Mrs. Palin winking, bragging, and signifying about hunting and being a great shot. Therein lies the disgust and the connection to Sarah Palin.

QC,
That is exactly the point isn't it!
Responsible people have been asking those on the right to please refrain from using such language for the last decade at least. The fear is not that there will be an actual armed up rising, that is ridiculous. The fear has always been of unstable individuals acting out in response to hateful rhetoric aimed at making them paranoid.
This is not the first incident. There have been a number of incidents in the last year or so where Glen Beck followers ambushed police officers or open fired on officers that happened to pull them over on their way to attack "liberal" agencies. You cannot spew this kind of paranoid hateful rhetoric to this many people without inciting some sick person every once and awhile.

So when the patriot Thomas Paine advocated burning down the Parliment building in London during the revolutionary war it is accountable to Palin, Angle, and the rest?
When Thomas Jefferson wrote that the tree of liberty must on occasion be watered with the blood of patriots, it was on Sarah Palin's behalf?
Too funny (in that tragic/ironic sense) by a long shot.

This is from Sara Palin’s Facebook page:
For those of you who doubt the meaning of her “crosshair” map I would point you to the last paragraph just above the map:
We’ll aim for these races and many others. This is just the first salvo in a fight to elect people across the nation who will bring common sense to Washington. Please go to sarahpac.com and join me in the fight.
Salvo defined is: sal·vo 1
(s l v )
n. pl. sal·vos or sal·voes
1.
a. A simultaneous discharge of firearms.
b. The simultaneous release of a rack of bombs from an aircraft.
c. The projectiles or bombs thus released.
2. Something resembling a release or discharge of bombs or firearms, as:
a. A sudden outburst, as of cheers or praise.
b. A forceful verbal or written assault.
Since her odds are 1 in 5 that she REALLY meant “a forceful verbal or written assault” I’d say that someone is lying about the surveyors marks.

'the genie is out of the bottle, and if the intent had been so innocent, they wouldn't be in such a hurry with the sudden disclaimers."
What is truly foolish is that she already had those who feel the 2nd Amendment (at least the last part) is the central tenet of democracy, lapping out of her hands. There was absolutely nothing for her to gain by the images on this map. But she and obviously her staff had become so enamored with such weapons imagery she baited her own trap. If this doesn't affect her public standing that is truly worrisome.
Did she really intend for someone to shoot Giffords or anyone else on that list? Surely she is not that wicked? Then I remember back to her rally I attended in '08 and the way she assailed Obama, leaning over the podium, pointing her finger for emphasis, driving the crowd into a literal frenzy with her words and I can't just excuse her either. You reap what you sow. And she was throwing her seeds everywhere.

As a student of the Scriptures, Sarah should have known that when you "Sow the wind, you reap the whirlwind." Hosea 8:7. I submit that this tragedy is the consummation of the words coming from Sarah Palin's mouth since she became a national figure. And this is something else Sarah, Sharron (Second Amendment remdies) Angle, and Michele (Miss Armed and Dangerous) Bachman may want to consider.
"So also the tongue is a small thing, but what enormous damage it can do. A great forest can be set on fire by one spark. And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is full of wickedness and poisons every part of the body and can turn our whole lives into a blazing flame of destruction and disaster." James 3:5-6 The Living Bible.
"But I tell you that the men will have to give an account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned." Matthew 12:36-36

While war analogies are routinely used in all sorts of situations, few go as far as to say that you must reload, not retreat or claim a right to armed insurrection against a sitting government, nor do they place cross hairs on specific targets and claim that we need to stoop to "2nd amendment remedies". All this side stepping is getting old, just come out and say that this type of rhetoric, whether from the left or right, is unacceptable and all those that participate in it are the problem, not just misunderstood. Quit sniveling, step up and take your medicine.

Patriot--there were no crosshair bears. There were gun crosshairs shown on a map indicating that democratic congress people held positions in these areas of the country and should be gotten rid of. (by implication-by shooting them if necessary.)
It doesn't matter if the gunman was influenced by this image or not, applying images to political discourse is risky and promotes dragging peoples minds to the lowest common denominator-violence for someones personal perspective and/or personal gain. When people do not have the ability to reason like rational people, they use all sorts of gimmicks to get their point across. Sarah and her cohorts want to "do away" with their oppostion, but they are not intellectually astute enouogh to have a rational, respectful, dialog, so, they resort to images that speak to people's lower mental and emotional feelings. The whole point here is that, politicians, must stop using violent language and images.

Note to Viners:
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
C.S. Lewis
We all could take heed of this quote. The description of the chatter on the Vine today appropriately fits this quotation: "Omnipotent Moral Busybodies"

Aren't all of the right-wing Christian Conservatives trying to shove their religion down our throats for our own 'good'? Beware simple-minded interpretations of deep subjects and taking quotes out of context- after all, C.S. Lewis was speaking on religion when he wrote that!

This quote is not being taken out of context. It's not addressing anything but the subject at hand. It's the full quote and is applicable to a variety of subject.
And stop changing the subject - we are not discussing right wing Christian Conservatives. That's a topic for another posting.

the infamous image was never meant to evoke guns or violence.
Unfortunately, it did; and probably, as a result, 6 has died so far; 14 are injured (5 critically). If it is proven that it all happened due to your "exhortation to violence posting", call Russia from your kitchen's window and ask for political asylum. Because you won't be able to bear the political backfire of it. Democrat, Independant, and even Republican will be hunting you down for making thing difficult for them. I sincerely hope this will serve you as a lesson and assist you at being wise and shuting your big mouth, Sarah.

Happily, Palin will soon be in the sights of an upcoming massive lawsuit against her and all of the other jerks that advocated violence. The "if not by ballot then by bullet" people and that loud mouthed pastor also should be nervous. They will all get what they deserve. Word on the street is that several law firms are jockeying for position, this case will be huge. Go get 'em.

I think they will lose but I support any attempt to make these people admit their roles in the politically motivated violence in this nation. That is the least we should expect.

Palin and others created a hostile environment; that Giffords pointed out. If you yell fire in a crowded theater and people are hurt; you are at fault. If you say target; crosshairs, reload. etc.; you are also creating an atmosphere of violence as a means to an end.
They may lose; but there's a good chance they won't. Regardless; it will cost them millions in legal fees and it will be cheaper to settle.

great point FK....
walking into a theater or any other confined space and yelling 'FIRE" is a chargeable offense...
I submit we apply the same logic with respect to cases such as these

All the spin in the world can't allow them to escape their culpability.Weren't gun sights, they certainly weren't hearts!

Wonder why Palin didn't contradict Mrs Giffords when Mrs Giffords pointed out the gun sight crosshair symbols and warned that this kind of thing could cause EXACTLY what ended up happening to her?
Palin is such a liar. Reload right Sarah?

But a Palin aide is now explaining that it was all a misunderstanding: the infamous image was never meant to evoke guns or violence.
Do they really expect us to believe that?! After what happened in Arizona? These people have no shame. If they had shame, they would need to admit that they wished to invoke the image of guns with the crosshairs and they should apologize for that. But I think that is too much to ask from scum like Sarah Palin.

All that can be said is these media individuals- Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Michelle Bachman, who promote using "hunting and killing prey” metaphors for achieving a political point presently and in the past few years are now reaping what they sow.
Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Michelle Bachman’s undeniable evidence of inciting their audience to act out their political viewpoint by deliberately using words or statements of violence as “death panels…internment camps….cross hairs of our M16 rifles…second amendment rights to make our point…take back our government…” that is continually documented in 24/7 print, internet, radio, and television mediums is beyond reproach.
Evidence: Regarding Sarah Palin, “Late update: A reader points out that Palin herself referred to the crosshairs/gun sights as "bullseyes" after the election

Next, notice the connection to Sarah Palin’s comments and Jesse Kelly’s ad:
Late Late Update: In another example, Kelly's website had also cross-posted a local news article that carried the headline "Kelly places the crosshairs squarely on Rep. Giffords:”

Right, because obviously we can't blame the individual for their own actions, they must have been unduly influenced by someone else. It couldn't possibly be that someone crazy got a gun.
Both sides do similar things....but in many cases it gets taken to the extreme in the next round.

It was only a matter of time before some nut job acted on this given the poison spewed by the right.

24.3 - That's nice. Now you let us know when a deranged leftist takes out 6 people with a bow and arrow... Or a Target store.
30,000 people a year are killed by gun violence in America every year. Using gun symbols and terminology in political rhetoric carries a significant difference than using other analogies.

Agreed....I was pointing out how one thing can lead to the next taking things further than the last...trying to out do them gets taken to the extreme...ie "lock and reload, Never retreat, reload" added. Do you really think Sarah Palin came up with this as an original idea? You would be giving her too much credit.
Look at #4.1

Except you have no evidence of a connect between the shooter and the map. That is how ridiculous this article is, you are saying "they created an environment" without even knowing if the kid votes. He said he couldn't trust government, not leftists, liberal etc. Palin has nothing to do with this.
mhr83: so you are saying that palin never drew a map with crosshairs on her district and mentioned her name. she used terms like reload, target; etc. Palin had everything to do with this as Giffords pointed out earlier. Palin wouldn't back down and take down the target web site. So she was VERY conscious of it's meaning since the obvious was pointed out to her. but that's how she thinks; like enemies are to be bagged. So you are WRONG mhr. This type of inflammatory rhetoric has no place in our democracy. a discussion of facts does; but that's not how the neocons win; they inflame the weak minded into a frenzy and this is what it leads to.

I am saying the kid has been fixated on Gifford since attending a congress on the corner event in 2007. Now if this fixation began long before the maps release then how can it be responsible? That fixation bears a lot more weight than a ridiculous map, you really must think Americans are mindless to believe anything with crosshairs constitutes a hit list.
Your kidding about the left always using facts right? Lets think about a few things, cash for clunkers, administration says good program, industry journal finds it cost much more per car than reported. Administration disagrees. Closing of car dealerships, Administration['s report finds politics and not profitability played a major role in selection. Administration disagrees.
During the Gulf spill, MSN reports that if only there had been an acoustic switch the nonfunctioning BOP would have worked, except that it wouldn't have. No retraction. The point here is that to believe that it is only the right and not both sides lying is ridiculous. That is where you are WRONG, the problem in this country is the left and right, lying to get the center.

Yeah, that's the same thing.

Yes it is, MSN posted an article that showed the results of a survey about lying. Republicans told the truth 20 % of the time, Democrats 25%. The left on Newsvine tried to construe that to show Dems tell the truth more as if that is a good thing. What they should have seen is Dems lie 3 out of 4 times, and Republicans 4 out of 5. Not hard to see the truth lacks on both sides.
I'm not buying into this lie. Those are clearly targets, someone would see if using a gun scope.

Targets printed on a piece of paper, if this was meant as a hit list then why did this occur after the election?
I did a quick search for references to things being "in the cross-hairs". Here are just a few from what could be a list of thousands.

BB click on those links, lots of things in crosshairs that haven't been shot.. Ridiculous to even post this, whats next Democrats are responsible for Lincoln's assassination because Booth was a democrat?

mhr,
If the congresswoman dies after the election, a Tea Bagger nut Case of a Governor gets to name her replacement. Where as if this had taken place before the election and the Dems were able to put some one else on the ballot, historically the sympathy vote sweeps the replacement into office.
That being said, I don't believe many think this was a grand scheme just a couple of nut cases stirred up by the hate mongering from the right!
Now the right's response to this seems a bit frightening. Fundamentalist Churches planning to picket the funerals, putting statements like "GOD sent the shooter to kill this fag-lover." Numerous blogs blaming the incident on the policies of the left. Then actually starting the claim that this kid was a leftist.
I truly believe that many on the right knew incidents such as this would start happening, they simply don't care. It fits into their BS rhetoric about the Dems being weak. When you campaign with nothing but hatred and fear you need chaos.

talking to mhr is pointless. he is also in the grasp of the current anti-democratic-government frenzy. I give up; their crap obviously doesn't stink to them; it's justified and misunderstood. yeah right.

Spg, do you really think this kid was planning in 2007 to kill a congresswoman in 2011 so that a then non existent political party governor could name her replacement? He has been infatuated with her since going to a Congress on the Corner event in 2007, before the tea party.
Also your not really trying to say that that ridiculous church made up of family members who picket soldiers funerals are actually representative of the right are you? I mean come on those people are crazy, their Elizabeth Edwards protest drew 5 people, two of which were kids. They are not representative of anything other than our belief in free speech.
But to the point in hand, you are saying a map he may or may not have seen, along with rhetoric he may or may not have listened to is more responsible than the individual or the experiences of his first 20 years? What about his education, parents, any mental treatment he may have sought?
Fish, I like dems, I voted for one for Congress, I don't like trying to shirk personal responibility for political gain.

I use to threaten to kill my self and others. in third grade I was expelled. I had to go to the Geneses program I was on medication and have only once threatened violence to a person. you can be pushed to the edge by your self or others it is only a mater of time. I had a coworker who threatened to beat my face in every day for six months, he would trip me, kick my tools under the car I was working on, call me gay because I believed in my religion and fallowed chastity, I put up with this making complaints through the right channels and nothing happened Then one day as he was throwing things at me I lost it and I said If he did it one more time "I WILL KILL YOU"he then stopped. However I do talk about dismemberment, disembowelment a lot, and dreams of killing my family and eating them. this stops people from messing with me. I have not taken medication for 16 years.
Should I go to jail?
What???
Maybe you should think about getting back on something. That is NOT normal.
I don't think you should be jailed, since you haven't done anything illegal. However, it would probably be a bad idea for you to have a gun in the house.

I do have a 16 gauge in my house I have not fired it in some time (rounds are 3$ a piece) I do the talk because It stops people from messing with you if not they will pray on you it is better to be feared then to be pray.
You know what's even better than that?
NOT killing and eating your family.
